I Smoke My Pipe Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJEKE LMNMOEPE QRSRTEUE VWXWYEZE

I can't extend to every friendA
In need a helping handB
No matter though I wish it soC
'Tis not as Fortune plannedB
But haply may I fancy theyD
Are men of different stripeE
Than others think who hint and winkF
And so I smoke my pipeE
-
A golden coal to crown the bowlG
My pipe and I aloneH
I sit and muse with idler viewsI
Perchance than I should ownH
It might be worse to own the purseJ
Whose glutted bowels gripeE
In little qualms of stinted almsK
And so I smoke my pipeE
-
And if inclined to moor my mindL
And cast the anchor HopeM
A puff of breath will put to deathN
The morbid misanthropeM
That lurks inside as errors hideO
In standing forms of typeE
To mar at birth some line of worthP
And so I smoke my pipeE
-
The subtle stings misfortune flingsQ
Can give me little painR
When my narcotic spell has wroughtS
This quiet in my brainR
When I can waste the past in tasteT
So luscious and so ripeE
That like an elf I hug myselfU
And so I smoke my pipeE
-
And wrapped in shrouds of drifting cloudsV
I watch the phantom's flightW
Till alien eyes from ParadiseX
Smile on me as I writeW
And I forgive the wrongs that liveY
As lightly as I wipeE
Away the tear that rises hereZ
And so I smoke my pipeE
