Herr Weiser Three score years and tenB
A hale white rose of his country menB
Transplanted here in the Hoosier loamC
And blossomy as his German homeC
As blossomy and as pure and sweetD
As the cool green glen of his calm retreatD
Far withdrawn from the noisy townE
Where trade goes clamoring up and downE
Whose fret and fever and stress and strifeF
May not trouble his tranquil lifeF
-
Breath of rest what a balmy gustG
Quite of the city's heat and dustG
Jostling down by the winding roadH
Through the orchard ways of his quaint abodeH
Tether the horse as we onward fareI
Under the pear trees trailing thereI
And thumping the wood bridge at nightJ
With lumps of ripeness and lush delightJ
Till the stream as it maunders on till dawnK
Is powdered and pelted and smiled uponL
-
Herr Weiser with his wholesome faceM
And the gentle blue of his eyes and graceM
Of unassuming honestyN
Be there to welcome you and meN
And what though the toil of the farm be stoppedO
And the tireless plans of the place be droppedO
While the prayerful master's knees are setP
In beds of pansy and mignonetteP
And lily and aster and columbineQ
Offered in love as yours and mineQ
-
What but a blessing of kindly thoughtP
Sweet as the breath of forget me notP
What but a spirit of lustrous loveR
White as the aster he bends aboveR
What but an odorous memoryN
Of the dear old man made known to meN
In days demanding a help like hisS
As sweet as the life of the lily isS
As sweet as the soul of a babe bloom wiseT
Born of a lily in paradiseU
