He faced his canvas as a seer whose kenB
Pierces the crust of this existence throughC
And smiled beyond on that his genius knewC
Ere mated with his being Conscious thenB
Of his high theme alone he smiled againB
Straight back upon himself in many a hueC
And tint and light and shade which slowly grewC
Enfeatured of a fair girl's face as whenB
First time she smiles for love's sake with no fearD
So wrought he witless that behind him leantE
A woman with old features dim and searD
And glamoured eyes that felt the brimming tearF
And with a voice like some sad instrumentE
That sighing said 'I'm dead there love me here '-
