'I have twankled the strings of the twinkering rainA
I have burnished the meteor's mailB
I have bridled the windC
When he whinnied and whinedC
With a bunch of stars tied to his tailB
But my sky rocket hopes hanging over the pastC
Must fuzzle and fazzle and fizzle at last 'D
-
I had waded far out in a drizzling dreamE
And my fancies had spattered my eyesF
With a vision of dreadC
With a number ten headC
And a form of diminutive sizeF
That wavered and wagged in a singular wayG
As he wound himself up and proceeded to sayG
-
'I have trimmed all my corns with the blade of the moonH
I have picked every tooth with a starI
And I thrill to recallJ
That I went through it allJ
Like a tune through a tickled guitarI
I have ripped up the rainbow and raveled the endsK
When the sun and myself were particular friends '-
-
And pausing again and producing a spongeL
And wiping the tears from his eyesF
He sank in a chairM
With a technical airM
That he struggled in vain to disguiseF
For a sigh that he breathed as I over him leantC
Was haunted and hot with a peppermint scentC
-
'Alas ' he continued in quavering tonesN
As a pang rippled over his faceO
'The life was too fastC
For the pleasure to lastC
In my very unfortunate caseO
And I'm going' he said as he turned to adjustC
A fuse in his bosom 'I'm going to BUST '-
-
I shrieked and awoke with the sullen che boomP
Of a five pounder filling my earsQ
And a roseate bloomP
Of a light in the roomP
I saw through the mist of my tearsR
But my guest of the night never saw the displayG
He had fuzzled and fazzled and fizzled awayG
