A Test Of Love Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDED FGF HCH IJIJECEC

'Now who shall say he loves me not 'A
-
He wooed her first in an atmosphereB
Of tender and low breathed sighsC
But the pang of her laugh went cutting clearB
To the soul of the enterpriseC
'You beg so pert for the kiss you seekD
It reminds me John ' she saidE
'Of a poodle pet that jumps to 'speak'D
For a crumb or a crust of bread '-
-
And flashing up with the blush that flushedF
His face like a tableau lightG
Came a bitter threat that his white lips hushedF
To a chill hoarse voiced 'Good night '-
And again her laugh like a knell that tolledH
And a wide eyed mock surpriseC
'Why John ' she said 'you have taken coldH
In the chill air of your sighs '-
-
And then he turned and with teeth tight clenchedI
He told her he hated herJ
That his love for her from his heart he wrenchedI
Like a corpse from a sepulcherJ
And then she called him 'a ghoul all redE
With the quintessence of crimes'C
'But I know you love me now ' she saidE
And kissed him a hundred timesC
