A Noted Traveler Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGGHHIIJJKK AALLGGMMMMFNOOPPMMPP MMQQ

Even in such a scene of senseless playA
The children were surprised one summer dayA
By a strange man who called across the fenceB
Inquiring for their father's residenceC
And being answered that this was the placeD
Opened the gate and with a radiant faceD
Came in and sat down with them in the shadeE
And waited till the absent father madeE
His noon appearance with a warmth and zestF
That told he had no ordinary guestF
In this man whose low spoken name he knewG
At once demurring as the stranger drewG
A stuffy notebook out and turned and setH
A big fat finger on a page and letH
The writing thereon testify insteadI
Of further speech And as the father readI
All silently the curious children tookJ
Exacting inventory both of bookJ
And man He wore a long napped white fur hatK
Pulled firmly on his head and under thatK
Rather long silvery hair or iron grayA
For he was not an old man anywayA
Not beyond sixty And he wore a pairL
Of square framed spectacles or rather thereL
Were two more than a pair the extra twoG
Flared at the corners at the eyes' side viewG
In as redundant vision as the eyesM
Of grasshoppers or bees or dragonfliesM
Later the children heard the father sayM
He was A Noted Traveler and would stayM
Some days with them In which time host and guestF
Discussed alone in deepest interestN
Some vague mysterious matter that defiedO
The wistful children loitering outsideO
The spare room door There Bud acquired a quiteP
New list of big words such as DisuniteP
And Shibboleth and AristocracyM
And Juggernaut and Squatter SovereigntyM
And Anti slavery EmancipateP
Irrepressible conflict and The GreatP
Battle of Armageddon obviouslyM
A pamphlet brought from Washington D CM
And spread among such friends as might occurQ
Of like views with The Noted TravelerQ
