Mellow hazes lowly trailing	A
Over wood and meadow veiling	A
Somber skies with wildfowl sailing	A
Sailor like to foreign lands	B

Willows wring their helpless hands	B

From the vale the trees stand swinging	A
In the moaning atmosphere	C
While in dead'ning lands the lowing	A
Of the cattle sadder growing	A
Fills the sense to overflowing	A
With the sorrow of the year	C

Sings the brook in rippled meter	D
Under boughs that lithely teeter	D
Lorn birds answering from the shores	E
Through the viny shady shiny	F
Interspaces shot with tiny	F
Flying motes that fleck the winy	F
Wave engraven sycamores	E

With rank weeds and shocks of tangled	G
Corn with crests like rent plumes dangled	G
Over Harvest's battle piain	F
And the sudden whir and whistle	H
Of the quail that like a missile	H
Whizzes over thorn and thistle	H
And a missile drops again	F

Where the redbird stops to stick its	E
Ruddy beak betwixt the pickets	E
Of the truant's rustic trap	I
And the sound of laughter ringing	A
Where within the wild vine swinging	A
Climb Bacchante's schoolmates flinging	A
Purple clusters in her lap	I
