A Brave Refrain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIJIIDID K LLDD

When snow is here and the trees look weirdA
And the knuckled twigs are gloved with frostB
When the breath congeals in the drover's beardA
And the old pathway to the barn is lostB
When the rooster's crow is sad to hearC
And the stamp of the stabled horse is vainD
And the tone of the cow bell grieves the earC
O then is the time for a brave refrainD
-
When the gears hang stiff on the harness pegE
And the tallow gleams in frozen streaksF
And the old hen stands on a lonesome legE
And the pump sounds hoarse and the handle squeaksF
When the woodpile lies in a shrouded heapG
And the frost is scratched from the window paneD
And anxious eyes from the inside peepG
O then is the time for a brave refrainD
-
When the ax helve warms at the chimney jambH
And hob nailed shoes on the hearth belowI
And the house cat curls in a slumber calmJ
And the eight day clock ticks loud and slowI
When the harsh broom handle jabs the ceilI
'Neath the kitchen loft and the drowsy brainD
Sniffs the breath of the morning mealI
O then is the time for a brave refrainD
-
-
ENVOIK
-
When the skillet seethes and a blubbering hotL
Tilts the lid of the coffee potL
And the scent of the buckwheat cake grows plainD
O then is the time for a brave refrainD
