The Shell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAACDDEFEGHGIIJJJKK LLMMNNOOPP

AND then I pressed the shellA
Close to my earB
And listened wellA
And straightway like a bellA
Came low and clearC
The slow sad murmur of the distant seasD
Whipped by an icy breezeD
Upon a shoreE
Wind swept and desolateF
It was a sunless strand that never boreE
The footprint of a manG
Nor felt the weightH
Since time beganG
Of any human quality or stirI
Save what the dreary winds and waves incurI
And in the hush of waters was the soundJ
Of pebbles rolling roundJ
For ever rolling with a hollow soundJ
And bubbling sea weeds as the waters goK
Swish to and froK
Their long cold tentacles of slimy greyL
There was no dayL
Nor ever came a nightM
Setting the stars alightM
To wonder at the moonN
Was twilight only and the frightened croonN
Smitten to whimpers of the dreary windO
And waves that journeyed blindO
And then I loosed my ear O it was sweetP
To hear a cart go jolting down the streetP
