I cling and swingA
On a branch or singA
Through the cool clear hush of Morning OB
Or fling my wingA
On the air and bringA
To sleepier birds a warning OB
That the night's in flightC
And the sun's in sightC
And the dew is the grass adorning OB
And the green leaves swingA
As I sing sing singA
Up by the riverD
Down the dellE
To the little wee nestF
Where the big tree fellE
So early in the morning OB
-
I flit and twitF
In the sun for a bitF
When his light so bright is shining OB
Or sit and fitF
My plumes or knitF
Straw plaits for the nest's nice lining OB
And she with gleeG
Shows unto meG
Underneath her wings reclining OB
And I sing that PegH
Has an egg egg eggH
Up by the oat fieldF
Round the millI
Past the meadowB
Down the hillI
So early in the morning OB
-
I stoop and swoopJ
On the air or loopJ
Through the trees and then go soaring OB
To group with a troopJ
On the gusty poopJ
While the wind behind is roaring OB
I skim and swimK
By a cloud's red rimK
And up to the azure flooring OB
And my wide wings dripL
As I slip slip slipL
Down through the rain dropsM
Back where PegH
Broods in the nestF
On the little white eggH
So early in the morning OB
