IA
I cling and swingB
On a branch or singB
Through the cool clear hush of Morning OC
Or fling my wingB
On the air and bringB
To sleepier birds a warning OC
That the night's in flightD
And the sun's in sightD
And the dew is the grass adorning OC
And the green leaves swingB
As I sing sing singB
Up by the riverE
Down the dellF
To the little wee nestG
Where the big tree fellF
So early in the morning OC
-
IIA
I flit and twitG
In the sun for a bitG
When his light so bright is shining OC
Or sit and fitG
My plumes or knitG
Straw plaits for the nest's nice lining OC
And she with gleeH
Shows unto meH
Underneath her wings reclining OC
-
And I sing that PegI
Has an egg egg eggI
Up by the oat fieldG
Round by the millJ
Past the meadowC
Down the hillJ
So early in the morning OC
-
IIIA
I stoop and swoopK
On the air or loopK
Through the trees and then go soaring OC
To group with a troopK
On the gusty poopK
While the wind behind is roaring OC
I skim and swimL
By a cloud's red rimL
And up to the azure flooring OC
And my wide wings dripM
As I slip slip slipM
Down through the rain dropsN
Back where PegI
Broods in the nestG
On the little white eggI
So early in the morning OC
