The Devil's Bag Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDECEFGHGHI

I saw the Devil walking down the laneA
Behind our house There was a heavy bagB
Strapped tightly on his shoulders and the rainA
Sizzled when it hit him He picked a ragB
Up from the ground and put it in his sackC
And grinned and rubbed his handsD
There was a thingE
Moving inside the bag upon his backC
It must have been a soul I saw it flingE
And twist about inside and not a holeF
Or cranny for escape Oh it was sadG
I cried and shouted out 'Let out that soul 'H
But he turned round and sure his face went madG
And twisted up and down and he said 'Hell 'H
And ran away Oh mammy I'm not wellI
