The Apple Tree (the Adventures Of Seumas Beg) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEDEDDD

I was hiding in the crooked apple treeA
Scouting for Indians when a man cameB
I thought it was an Indian for heA
Was running like the wind There was a flameB
Of sunlight on his hand as he drew nearC
And then I saw a knife gripped in his fistD
He panted like a horse his eyes were queerC
Wide open staring frightfully and histD
His mouth stared open like another eyeE
And all his hair was matted down with sweatD
I crouched among the leaves for fear he'd spyE
Where I was hiding so he did not getD
His awful eyes on me but like the windD
He fled as if he heard something behindD
