School Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCBDDB EFEFGFGFHHF I

If there is a vile perniciousA
Wicked and degraded ruleB
Tending to debase the viciousA
And corrupt the harmless foolB
If there is a hateful habitC
Making man a senseless toolB
With the feelings of a rabbitC
And the wisdom of a muleB
It's the rule which inculcatesD
It's the habit which dictatesD
The wrong and sinful practice of going into schoolB
-
If there's anything improvingE
To an erring sinner's stateF
Which is useful in removingE
All the ills of human fateF
If there's any glorious customG
Which our faults can dissipateF
And can casually thrust 'emG
Out of sight and make us greatF
It's the plan by which we shirkH
Half our matu ti nal workH
The glorious institution of always being lateF
