4th July 1882, Malines. Midnight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABACDACDA

Belgian with cumbrous tread and iron bootsA
Who in the murky middle of the nightB
Designing to renew the foul pursuitsA
In which thy life is passed ill favoured wightB
And wishing on the platform to alightB
Where thou couldst mingle with thy fellow brutesA
Didst walk the carriage floor a leprous sightB
As o'er the sky some baleful meteor shootsA
Upon my slippered foot thou didst descendC
Didst rouse me from my slumbers mad with painD
And laughedst loud for several minutes' spaceA
Oh may'st thou suffer tortures without endC
May fiends with glowing pincers rend thy brainD
And beetles batten on thy blackened faceA
