The Symbol Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CACA ADAD EFEF GHGH

Thus pass the glories of the worldA
He lies beneath the pall's white foldsB
His sword is sheathed his pennon furledA
Him silence holdsB
-
The pilgrim staff the cockle shellC
The crown the sceptre of his prideA
The simple flower from forest dellC
Heap at his sideA
-
And add thereto the wild heart luteA
The voice of love and twilight songD
Those passioned strings though he is muteA
Remember longD
-
And move not thence his evening bookE
The sifted grains of calm and stormF
And bow before that dust strewn nookE
And silent formF
-
To morrow hath no hope for himG
No clasp of friend no grip of foeH
Remember love with eyes tear dimG
We too must goH
