A Curse On A Closed Gate Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAA BBB CCC DDD EEF AAA

Be this the fateA
Of the man who would shut his gateA
On the stranger gentle or simple early or lateA
-
When his mouth with a day's long hunger and thirst would wishB
For the savour of salted fishB
Let him sit and eat his fill of an empty dishB
-
To the man of that ilkC
Let water stand in his churn instead of milkC
That turns a calf's coat silkC
-
And under the gloomy nightD
May never a thatch made tightD
Shut out the clouds from his sightD
-
Above the ground or below itE
Good cheer may he never know itE
Nor a tale by the fire nor a dance on the road nor a song by a wandering poetF
-
Till he open his gateA
To the stranger early or lateA
And turn back the stone of his fateA
