My dear and only Love I prayA
This noble world of theeB
Be govern'd by no other swayA
But purest monarchyB
For if confusion have a partC
Which virtuous souls abhorD
And hold a synod in thy heartC
I'll never love thee moreD
-
Like Alexander I will reignE
And I will reign aloneF
My thoughts shall evermore disdainE
A rival on my throneF
He either fears his fate too muchG
Or his deserts are smallH
That puts it not unto the touchG
To win or lose it allH
-
But I must rule and govern stillI
And always give the lawJ
And have each subject at my willI
And all to stand in aweK
But 'gainst my battery if I findL
Thou shunn'st the prize so soreD
As that thou sett'st me up a blindL
I'll never love thee moreD
-
Or in the empire of thy heartC
Where I should solely beB
Another do pretend a partC
And dares to vie with meB
Or if committees thou erectM
And go on such a scoreD
I'll sing and laugh at thy neglectM
And never love thee moreD
-
But if thou wilt be constant thenN
And faithful of thy wordO
I'll make thee glorious by my penN
And famous by my swordP
I'll serve thee in such noble waysQ
Was never heard beforeD
I'll crown and deck thee all with baysQ
And love thee evermoreD
