To The Right Honourable Lady Charlotte Gordon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG

Why Lady wilt thou bind thy lovely browA
With the dread semblance of that warlike helmB
That nodding plume and wreathe of various glowC
That graced the chiefs of Scotia's ancient realmB
-
Thou know'st that virtue is of power the sourceD
And all her magic to thy eyes is givenE
We own their empire while we feel their forceD
Beaming with the benignity of heavenE
-
The plumy helmet and the martial mienF
Might dignify Minerva's awful charmsG
But more resistless far th' Idalian queenF
Smiles graces gentleness her only armsG
