Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGHG IJIJ KBKB LMLN OPOP QRQR STST UOUO IVIV

A
-
Tired with the busy crowds that all the dayB
Impatient throng where Folly's altars flameC
My languid powers dissolve with quick decayB
Till genial Sleep repair the sinking frameC
-
-
-
-
Hail kind reviver that canst lull the caresD
And every weary sense compose to restE
Lighten the oppressive load which anguish bearsD
And warm with hope the cold desponding breastE
-
-
-
-
Touch'd by thy rod from Power's majestic browF
Drops the gay plume he pines a lowly clownG
And on the cold earth stretch'd the son of WoeH
Quaffs Pleasure's draught and wears a fancied crownG
-
-
-
-
When roused by thee on boundless pinions borneI
Fancy to fairy scenes exults to roveJ
Now scales the cliff gay gleaming on the mornI
Now sad and silent treads the deepening groveJ
-
-
-
-
Or skims the main and listens to the stormsK
Marks the long waves roll far remote awayB
Or mingling with ten thousand glittering formsK
Floats on the gale and basks in purest dayB
-
-
-
-
Haply ere long pierced by the howling blastL
Through dark and pathless deserts I shall roamM
Plunge down the unfathom'd deep or shrink aghastL
Where bursts the shrieking spectre from the tombN
-
-
-
-
Perhaps loose Luxury's enchanting smileO
Shall lure my steps to some romantic daleP
Where Mirth's light freaks the unheeded hours beguileO
And airs of rapture warble in the galeP
-
-
-
-
Instructive emblem of this mortal stateQ
Where scenes as various every hour ariseR
In swift succession which the hand of FateQ
Presents then snatches from our wondering eyesR
-
-
-
-
Be taught vain man how fleeting all thy joysS
Thy boasted grandeur and thy glittering storeT
Death comes and all thy fancied bliss destroysS
Quick as a dream it fades and is no moreT
-
-
-
-
And sons of Sorrow though the threatening stormU
Of angry Fortune overhang awhileO
Let not her frowns your inward peace deformU
Soon happier days in happier climes shall smileO
-
-
-
-
Through Earth's throng'd visions while we toss forlornI
'Tis tumult all and rage and restless strifeV
But these shall vanish like the dreams of mornI
When Death awakes us to immortal lifeV
