Searching For Pittsburgh Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKHLMFNOPQR STUVWXY Z

The fox pushes softly blindly through me at nightA
between the liver and the stomach Comes to the heartB
and hesitates Considers and then goes around itC
Trying to escape the mildness of our violent worldD
Goes deeper searching for what remains of PittsburghE
in me The rusting mills sprawled giganticallyF
along three rivers The authority of themG
The gritty alleys where we played every evening wereH
stained pink by the inferno always surging in the skyI
as though Christ and the Father were still fashioning the EarthJ
Locomotives driving through the cold rainK
lordly and bestial in their strength Massive waterH
flowing morning and night throughout a cityL
girded with ninety bridges Sumptuous shoulderedM
sleek thighed obstinate and majestic unquenchableF
All grip and flood mighty sucking and deep rooted graceN
A city of brick and tired wood Ox and sovereign spiritO
Primitive Pittsburgh Winter month after month tellingP
of death The beauty forcing us as much as harshnessQ
Our spirits forged in that wilderness our minds forgedR
by the heart Making together a consequence of AmericaS
The fox watched me build my Pittsburgh again and againT
In Paris afternoons on Buttes Chaumont On Greek islandsU
with their fields of stone In beds with women sometimesV
amid their gentleness Now the fox will live in our ruinedW
house My tomatoes grow ripe among weeds and the soundX
of water In this happy place my serious heart has madeY
