Rhyme Scheme: AAAB CDDB CCC EEE FFG HDD AIA

Ca' the yowes to the knowesA
Ca' them where the heather growsA
Ca' them where the burnie rowsA
My bonnie dearieB
-
As I gaed down the water sideC
There I met my shepherd ladD
He row'd me sweetly in his plaidD
And he ca'd me his dearieB
-
'Will ye gang down the water sideC
And see the waves sae sweetly glideC
Beneath the hazels spreading wideC
The moon it shines fu' clearly '-
-
'I was bred up at nae sic schoolE
My shepherd lad to play the foolE
And a' the day to sit in doolE
And naebody to see me '-
-
'Ye sall get gowns and ribbons meetF
Cauf leather shoon upon your feetF
And in my arms ye'se lie and sleepG
And ye sall be my dearie '-
-
'If ye'll but stand to what ye've saidH
I'se gang wi' you my shepherd ladD
And ye may row me in your plaidD
And I sall be your dearie '-
-
'While waters wimple to the seaA
While day blinks in the lift sae hieI
Till clay cauld death sall blin' my e'eA
Ye aye sall be my dearie '-
