The Old Barrel Organ Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEEE FGEG HIJI KLEL MNMGWe almost lost our minds through that mad sky | A |
It blinds us with its fire or its snow | B |
And baring teeth like any beast of wild | C |
Old winter hides in April very slow | B |
- | |
No sooner has it fallen into sleep | D |
That has again its helmet over brows | E |
And those streams gone into snow deeps | E |
Cease their song and freeze in deadly silence | E |
- | |
- | |
But all this is forgotten in the past | F |
The garden hums and whitens vibrant stone | G |
And rooms look with opened windows eyes | E |
At dark green grass over the road sown | G |
- | |
But only one the barrel organ old | H |
Shivers with cold in May of sunset s languor | I |
Can t ever grind all injuries recalled | J |
As it rotates the heedful shaft with anger | I |
- | |
This rusty barrel cannot understand | K |
That all its work is void of any goal | L |
That any pain of old age extends | E |
On every pin and every turn in whole | L |
- | |
But even if it once were to discern | M |
Its own fate and fate of the street organ | N |
It would not ever cease to sing and turn | M |
Cause every song is one of pain and moan | G |
