To A Scientific Friend Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGEHEEEIEEJKJ ELELMNONPQEQ

You say 'tis plain that poets feignA
And from the truth departB
They write with ease what fibs they pleaseC
With artifice not artB
Dearer to you the simply trueD
The fact without the fancyE
Than this false play of colours gayF
So very vague and chancyE
No doubt 'tis well the truth to tellG
In scientific coteriesE
But I'll be bold to say she's coldH
Excepting to her votariesE
The false disguise of tawdry liesE
May hide sweet Nature's faceE
But in her form the blood runs warmI
As in the human raceE
And in the rose the dew drop glowsE
And o'er the seas sereneJ
The sunshine white still breaks in lightK
Of yellow blue and greenJ
In thousand rays the fancy playsE
The feelings rise and bubbleL
The mind receives the heart believesE
And makes each pleasure doubleL
Then spare to draw without a flawM
Nor all too perfect make herN
Lest Nature wear the dull cold airO
Of some demurest QuakerN
Whose mien austere is void of cheerP
Or sense of sins forgivenQ
And her sweet face has lost all graceE
Of either earth or heavenQ
