[month Of] August Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGFEF

The soldier month the bulwark of the yearA
That never more shall hear such victories toldB
He stands apparent with his heaven high spearA
And helmeted of grand Etruscan goldB
Our harvest is the bounty he has wonC
The loot his fiery temper takes by strengthD
Oh Paladin of the Imperial sunC
Oh crown of all the seasons come at lengthD
-
This is sheer manhood this is CharlemagneE
When he with his wide host came conquering homeF
From vengeance under Roncesvalles ta'enG
Or when his bramble beard flaked red with foamF
Of bivouac wine cups on the Lombard plainE
What time he swept to grasp the world at RomeF
