Lord Lundy Ii - Second Canto Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGHIIJJKK LLAAMN DDOOPPQQRRS TT

It happened to Lord Lundy thenA
As happens to so many menA
Towards the age of twenty sixB
They shoved him into politicsB
In which profession he commandedC
The Income that his rank demandedC
In turn as Secretary forD
India the Colonies and WarD
But very soon his friends beganE
To doubt is he were quite the manE
Thus if a member rose to sayF
As members do from day to dayF
'Arising out of that reply 'G
Lord Lundy would begin to cryH
A Hint at harmless little jobsI
Would shake him with convulsive sobsI
While as for Revelations theseJ
Would simply bring him to his kneesJ
And leave him whimpering like a childK
It drove his colleagues raving wildK
They let him sink from Post to PostL
From fifteen hundred at the mostL
To eight and barely six and thenA
To be Curator of Big BenA
And finally there came a ThreatM
To oust him from the CabinetN
-
The Duke his aged grand sire boreD
The shame till he could bear no moreD
He rallied his declining powersO
Summoned the youth to Brackley TowersO
And bitterly addressed him thusP
'Sir you have disappointed usP
We had intended you to beQ
The next Prime Minister but threeQ
The stocks were sold the Press was squaredR
The Middle Class was quite preparedR
But as it is My language failsS
Go out and govern New South Wales '-
-
The Aged Patriot groaned and diedT
And gracious how Lord Lundy criedT
