Introduction: More Beasts For Worse Children Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCABDEFEGHGHIJKJLM LBNOPOQRQR

The parents of the learned childA
His father and his motherB
Were utterly aghast to noteC
The facts he would at random quoteC
On creatures curious rare and wildA
And wondering ask each otherB
An idle little child like thisD
How is it that he knowsE
What years of close analysisF
Are powerless to discloseE
Our brains are trained our books are bigG
And yet we always failH
To answer why the Guinea pigG
Is born without a tailH
Or why the Wanderoo should rantI
In wild unmeaning rhymesJ
Whereas the Indian ElephantK
Will only read The TimesJ
Perhaps he found a way to slipL
Unnoticed to the ZooM
And gave the Pachyderm a tipL
Or pumped the WanderooB
Or even by an artful planN
Deceived our watchful eyesO
And interviewed the PelicanP
Who is extremely wiseO
Oh no said he in humble toneQ
With shy but conscious lookR
Such facts I never could have knownQ
But for this little bookR
