Godolphin Horne Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGGHIJJKKLL MMNNNNBBOOHHPPQQRSTT UUIIVV

Who was cursed with the Sin of Pride and Became a Boot BlackA
-
Godolphin Horne was Nobly BornB
He held the Human Race in ScornB
And lived with all his Sisters whereC
His father lived in Berkeley SquareC
And oh The Lad was Deathly ProudD
He never shook your Hand or BowedD
But merely smirked and nodded thusE
How perfectly ridiculousE
Alas That such Affected TricksF
Should flourish in a Child of SixF
For such was Young Godolphin's ageG
Just then the Court required a PageG
Whereat the Lord High ChamberlainH
The Kindest and the Best of MenI
He went good naturedly and tookJ
A perfectly enormous BookJ
Called People Qualified to BeK
Attendant on His MajestyK
And murmured as he scanned the listL
To see that no one should be missedL
There's William Coutts has got the FluM
And Billy Higgs would never doM
And Guy de Vere is far too youngN
And wasn't D'Alton's father hungN
And as for Alexander ByngN
I think I know the kind of thingN
A Churchman cleanly nobly bornB
Come let us say Godolphin HorneB
But hardly had he said the wordO
When Murmurs of Dissent were heardO
The King of Iceland's Eldest SonH
Said Thank you I am taking noneH
The Aged Duchess of AthloneP
Remarked in her sub acid toneP
I doubt if He is what we needQ
With which the Bishops all agreedQ
And even Lady Mary FloodR
So kind and oh So really goodS
Said No He wouldn't do at allT
He'd make us feel a lot too smallT
The Chamberlain said Well well wellU
No doubt you're right One cannot tellU
He took his Gold and Diamond PenI
And scratched Godolphin out againI
So now Godolphin is the BoyV
Who Blacks the Boots at the SavoyV
