On The Slain At Chickamauga Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBADBD BBBBBB

Happy are they and charmed in lifeA
Who through long wars arrive unscarredB
At peace To such the wreath be givenC
If they unfalteringly have strivenC
In honor as in limb unmarredB
Let cheerful praise be rifeA
And let them live their years at easeD
Musing on brothers who victorious diedB
Loved mates whose memory shall ever pleaseD
-
And yet mischance is honorable tooB
Seeming defeat in conflict justifiedB
Whose end to closing eyes is hid from viewB
The will that never can relentB
The aim survivor of the bafflementB
Make this memorial dueB
