In The Prison Pen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JBKB GGBLG

Listless he eyes the palisadesA
And sentries in the glareB
'Tis barren as a pelican beachC
But his world is ended thereB
-
Nothing to do and vacant handsD
Bring on the idiot painE
He tries to think to recollectF
But the blur is on his brainE
-
Around him swarm the plaining ghostsG
Like those on Virgil's shoreH
A wilderness of faces dimI
And pale ones gashed and hoarH
-
A smiting sun No shed no treeJ
He totters to his lairB
A den that sick hands dug in earthK
Ere famine wasted thereB
-
Or dropping in his place he swoonsG
Walled in by throngs that pressG
Till forth from the throngs they bearB
him deadL
Dead in his meagrenessG
