Victor And Vanquished Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

As one who long hath fled with panting breathA
Before his foe bleeding and near to fallB
I turn and set my back against the wallB
And look thee in the face triumphant DeathA
I call for aid and no one answerethA
I am alone with thee who conquerest allB
Yet me thy threatening form doth not appallB
For thou art but a phantom and a wraithA
Wounded and weak sword broken at the hiltC
With armor shattered and without a shieldD
I stand unmoved do with me what thou wiltC
I can resist no more but will not yieldD
This is no tournament where cowards tiltC
The vanquished here is victor of the fieldD
