Behold a giant am IA
Aloft here in my towerB
With my granite jaws I devourB
The maize and the wheat and the ryeA
And grind them into flourB
-
I look down over the farmsC
In the fields of grain I seeD
The harvest that is to beD
And I fling to the air my armsC
For I know it is all for meD
-
I hear the sound of flailsC
Far off from the threshing floorsC
In barns with their open doorsC
And the wind the wind in my sailsC
Louder and louder roarsC
-
I stand here in my placeC
With my foot on the rock belowE
And whichever way it may blowE
I meet it face to faceC
As a brave man meets his foeE
-
And while we wrestle and striveF
My master the miller standsC
And feeds me with his handsC
For he knows who makes him thriveF
Who makes him lord of landsC
-
On Sundays I take my restG
Church going bells beginH
Their low melodious dinH
I cross my arms on my breastG
And all is peace withinH
