The Secret Of The Sea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CDED FGEG HEEE EIAI JKAL MGNG OAEA NEAE MANA

Ah what pleasant visions haunt meA
As I gaze upon the seaA
All the old romantic legendsB
All my dreams come back to meA
-
Sails of silk and ropes of sandalC
Such as gleam in ancient loreD
And the singing of the sailorsE
And the answer from the shoreD
-
Most of all the Spanish balladF
Haunts me oft and tarries longG
Of the noble Count ArnaldosE
And the sailor's mystic songG
-
Like the long waves on a sea beachH
Where the sand as silver shinesE
With a soft monotonous cadenceE
Flow its unrhymed lyric linesE
-
Telling how the Count ArnaldosE
With his hawk upon his handI
Saw a fair and stately galleyA
Steering onward to the landI
-
How he heard the ancient helmsmanJ
Chant a song so wild and clearK
That the sailing sea bird slowlyA
Poised upon the mast to hearL
-
Till his soul was full of longingM
And he cried with impulse strongG
Helmsman for the love of heavenN
Teach me too that wondrous songG
-
Wouldst thou so the helmsman answeredO
Learn the secret of the seaA
Only those who brave its dangersE
Comprehend its mysteryA
-
In each sail that skims the horizonN
In each landward blowing breezeE
I behold that stately galleyA
Hear those mournful melodiesE
-
Till my soul is full of longingM
For the secret of the seaA
And the heart of the great oceanN
Sends a thrilling pulse through meA
