The Reaper And The Flowers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGHG IJIJ KLKL DMEM NIOI

There is a Reaper whose name is DeathA
And with his sickle keenB
He reaps the bearded grain at a breathA
And the flowers that grow betweenB
-
Shall I have nought that is fair saith heC
Have nought but the bearded grainD
Though the breath of these flowers is sweet to meC
I will give them all back againE
-
He gazed at the flowers with tearful eyesF
He kissed their drooping leavesG
It was for the Lord of ParadiseH
He bound them in his sheavesG
-
My Lord has need of these flowerets gayI
The Reaper said and smiledJ
Dear tokens of the earth are theyI
Where he was once a childJ
-
They shall all bloom in fields of lightK
Transplanted by my careL
And saints upon their garments whiteK
These sacred blossoms wearL
-
And the mother gave in tears and painD
The flowers she most did loveM
She knew she should find them all againE
In the fields of light aboveM
-
O not in cruelty not in wrathN
The Reaper came that dayI
'Twas an angel visited the green earthO
And took the flowers awayI
