The Iron Pen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCB DDAD AAEA FFGF HHIJ KKDK LLML NNON APQA RRSR

Made from a fetter of Bonnivard the Prisoner of Chillon the handle of wood from the Frigate Constitution and bound with a circlet of gold inset with three precious stones from Siberia Ceylon and MaineA
-
I thought this Pen would ariseB
From the casket where it liesB
Of itself would arise and writeC
My thanks and my surpriseB
-
When you gave it me under the pinesD
I dreamed these gems from the minesD
Of Siberia Ceylon and MaineA
Would glimmer as thoughts in the linesD
-
That this iron link from the chainA
Of Bonnivard might retainA
Some verse of the Poet who sangE
Of the prisoner and his painA
-
That this wood from the frigate's mastF
Might write me a rhyme at lastF
As it used to write on the skyG
The song of the sea and the blastF
-
But motionless as I waitH
Like a Bishop lying in stateH
Lies the Pen with its mitre of goldI
And its jewels inviolateJ
-
Then must I speak and sayK
That the light of that summer dayK
In the garden under the pinesD
Shall not fade and pass awayK
-
I shall see you standing thereL
Caressed by the fragrant airL
With the shadow on your faceM
And the sunshine on your hairL
-
I shall hear the sweet low toneN
Of a voice before unknownN
Saying This is from me to youO
From me and to you aloneN
-
And in words not idle and vainA
I shall answer and thank you againP
For the gift and the grace of the giftQ
O beautiful Helen of MaineA
-
And forever this gift will beR
As a blessing from you to meR
As a drop of the dew of your youthS
On the leaves of an aged treeR
