The Descent Of The Muses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECDD

Nine sisters beautiful in form and faceA
Came from their convent on the shining heightsB
Of Pierus the mountain of delightsB
To dwell among the people at its baseA
Then seemed the world to change All time and spaceA
Splendor of cloudless days and starry nightsB
And men and manners and all sounds and sightsB
Had a new meaning a diviner graceA
Proud were these sisters but were not too proudC
To teach in schools of little country townsD
Science and song and all the arts that pleaseE
So that while housewives span and farmers ploughedC
Their comely daughters clad in homespun gownsD
Learned the sweet songs of the PieridesD
