The Angler's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEDDE DDFDDF GGHIIH DDJKKJ

From the river's plashy bankA
Where the sedge grows green and rankA
And the twisted woodbine springsB
Upward speeds the morning larkC
To its silver cloud and harkC
On his way the woodman singsB
-
On the dim and misty lakesD
Gloriously the morning breaksD
And the eagle's on his cloudE
Whilst the wind with sighing wooesD
To its arms the chaste cold oozeD
And the rustling reeds pipe loudE
-
Where the embracing ivy holdsD
Close the hoar elm in its foldsD
In the meadow's fenny landF
And the winding river sweepsD
Through its shallows and still deepsD
Silent with my rod I standF
-
But when sultry suns are highG
Underneath the oak I lieG
As it shades the water's edgeH
And I mark my line awayI
In the wheeling eddy playI
Tangling with the river sedgeH
-
When the eye of evening looksD
On green woods and winding brooksD
And the wind sighs o'er the leaJ
Woods and streams I leave you thenK
While the shadow in the glenK
Lengthens by the greenwood treeJ
