Tales Of A Wayside Inn : Part 1. Finale Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCACCCCCC DECFCCFFGG

The hour was late the fire burned lowA
The Landlord's eyes were closed in sleepB
And near the story's end a deepB
Sonorous sound at times was heardC
As when the distant bagpipes blowA
At this all laughed the Landlord stirredC
As one awaking from a swoundC
And gazing anxiously aroundC
Protested that he had not sleptC
But only shut his eyes and keptC
His ears attentive to each wordC
-
Then all arose and said 'Good Night '-
Alone remained the drowsy SquireD
To rake the embers of the fireE
And quench the waning parlor lightC
While from the windows here and thereF
The scattered lamps a moment gleamedC
And the illumined hostel seemedC
The constellation of the BearF
Downward athwart the misty airF
Sinking and setting toward the sunG
Far off the village clock struck oneG
