Maiden And Weathercock Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDD EFFGG HHEE IIJJ AKKLL EFFMM NNOO

MAIDENA
O weathercock on the village spireB
With your golden feathers all on fireC
Tell me what can you see from your perchD
Above there over the tower of the churchD
-
WEATHERCOCKE
I can see the roofs and the streets belowF
And the people moving to and froF
And beyond without either roof or streetG
The great salt sea and the fisherman's fleetG
-
I can see a ship come sailing inH
Beyond the headlands and harbor of LynnH
And a young man standing on the deckE
With a silken kerchief round his neckE
-
Now he is pressing it to his lipsI
And now he is kissing his finger tipsI
And now he is lifting and waving his handJ
And blowing the kisses toward the landJ
-
MAIDENA
Ah that is the ship from over the seaK
That is bringing my lover back to meK
Bringing my lover so fond and trueL
Who does not change with the wind like youL
-
WEATHERCOCKE
If I change with all the winds that blowF
It is only because they made me soF
And people would think it wondrous strangeM
If I a Weathercock should not changeM
-
O pretty Maiden so fine and fairN
With your dreamy eyes and your golden hairN
When you and your lover meet to dayO
You will thank me for looking some other wayO
