Break off Dance no moreA
Danger is at the doorA
Music is in armsB
To signal war's alarmsB
-
Hark a sudden trumpet callingC
Over the hillD
Why are you calling trumpet callingC
What is your willD
-
Men men menE
Men who are ready to fightF
For their country's life and the rightF
Of a liberty loving land to beG
Free free freeG
Free from a tyrant's chainH
Free from dishonor's stainH
Free to guard and maintainH
All that her fathers fought forA
All that her sons have wrought forA
Resolute brave and freeG
-
Call again trumpet call againE
Call up the menE
Do you hear the storm of cheersI
Mingled with the women's tearsJ
And the tramp tramp tramp of marching feetK
Do you hear the throbbing drumL
As the hosts of battle comeL
Keeping time time time to its beatK
O Music give a songM
To make their spirit strongM
For the fury of the tempest they must meetK
-
The hoarse roarA
Of the monster gunsN
And the sharp barkO
Of the lesser gunsN
The whine of the shellsP
The rifles' clatterQ
Where the bullets patterQ
The rattle rattle rattleR
Of the mitrailleuse in battleR
And the yellsP
Of the men who charge through hellsP
Where the poison gas descendsP
And the bursting shrapnel rendsP
Limb from limbS
In the dimS
Chaos and clamor of the strifeT
Where no man thinks of his lifeT
But only of fighting throughU
Blindly fighting through throughU
'Tis doneV
At lastW
The victory wonV
The dissonance of warfare pastW
-
O Music mourn the deadX
Whose loyal blood was shedX
And sound the taps for every hero slainH
Then lead into the songM
That made their spirit strongM
And tell the world they did not die in vainH
-
Thank God we can see in the glory of mornY
The invincible flag that our fathers defendedZ
And our hearts can repeat what the heroes have swornY
That war shall not end till the war lust is endedZ
Then the bloodthirsty sword shall no longer be lordA2
Of the nations oppressed by the conqueror's hordeA2
But the banners of freedom shall peacefully waveB2
O'er the world of the free and the lands of the braveB2
