Urbs Coronata Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCAC EFGFHF IJKJLJ MNONOON

Song for the City College of New YorkA
-
O youngest of the giant broodB
Of cities far renownedC
In wealth and power thou hast passedD
Thy rivals at a boundC
And now thou art a queen New YorkA
And how wilt thou be crownedC
-
Weave me no palace wreath of prideE
The royal city saidF
Nor forge an iron fortress wallG
To frown upon my headF
But let me wear a diademH
Of Wisdom's towers insteadF
-
And so upon her island heightI
She worked her will forsoothJ
She set upon her rocky browK
A citadel of TruthJ
A house of Light a home of ThoughtL
A shrine of noble YouthJ
-
Stand here ye City College towersM
And look both up and downN
Remember all who wrought for youO
Within the toiling townN
Remember all they thought for youO
And all the hopes they brought for youO
And be the City's CrownN
