The Song Sparrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDDD EFFEGGDHD IGGIEEDHD

There is a bird I know so wellA
It seems as if he must have sungB
Beside my crib when I was youngB
Before I knew the way to spellA
The name of even the smallest birdC
His gentle joyful song I heardC
Now see if you can tell my dearD
What bird it is that every yearD
Sings Sweet sweet sweet very merry cheerD
-
He comes in March when winds are strongE
And snow returns to hide the earthF
But still he warms his head with mirthF
And waits for May He lingers longE
While flowers fade and every dayG
Repeats his sweet contented layG
As if to say we need not fearD
The season's change if love is hereH
With Sweet sweet sweet very merry cheerD
-
He does not wear a Joseph's coatI
Of many colors smart and gayG
His suit is Quaker brown and grayG
With darker patches at his throatI
And yet of all the well dressed throngE
Not one can sing so brave a songE
It makes the pride of looks appearD
A vain and foolish thing to hearH
His Sweet sweet sweet very merry cheerD
