Stars And The Soul Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDD EEFF GGHH IIJJ KKLL JJMN OOJJ

To Charles A Young AstronomerA
-
Two things the wise man said fill me with aweB
The starry heavens and the moral lawC
Nay add another wonder to thy rollD
The living marvel of the human soulD
-
Born in the dust and cradled in the darkE
It feels the fire of an immortal sparkE
And learns to read with patient searching eyesF
The splendid secret of the unconscious skiesF
-
For God thought Light before He spoke the wordG
The darkness understood not though it heardG
But man looks up to where the planets swimH
And thinks God's thoughts of glory after HimH
-
What knows the star that guides the sailor's wayI
Or lights the lover's bower with liquid rayI
Of toil and passion danger and distressJ
Brave hope true love and utter faithfulnessJ
-
But human hearts that suffer good and illK
And hold to virtue with a loyal willK
Adorn the law that rules our mortal strifeL
With star surpassing victories of lifeL
-
So take our thanks dear reader of the skiesJ
Devout astronomer most humbly wiseJ
For lessons brighter than the stars can giveM
And inward light that helps us all to liveN
-
The world has brought the laurel leaves to crownO
The star discoverer's name with high renownO
Accept the flower of love we lay with theseJ
For influence sweeter than the PleiadesJ
