Gone From My Sight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE F G HAI E J K LM

I am standing upon the seashore A ship at my sideA
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and startsB
for the blue ocean She is an object of beauty and strengthC
I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speckD
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each otherE
-
Then someone at my side says 'There she is gone'F
-
Gone whereG
-
Gone from my sight That is all She is just as large in mastH
hull and spar as she was when she left my sideA
And she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined portI
-
Her diminished size is in me not in herE
And just at the moment when someone says 'There she is gone '-
there are other eyes watching her coming and other voicesJ
ready to take up the glad shout 'Here she comes '-
-
And that is dyingK
-
Death comes in its own time in its own wayL
Death is as unique as the individual experiencing itM

Rita Altland : My brother passed at 55 years old. I had the minister read this poem at his funeral. It has been 17 years and I still cry when I read this poem.
