Autumn In The Garden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD BBBBEFBB GGHHIIJJ BBKKLLMM FFBBNNOO

When the frosty kiss of Autumn in the darkA
Makes its markA
On the flowers and the misty morning grievesB
Over fallen leavesB
Then my olden garden where the golden soilC
Through the toilC
Of a hundred years is mellow rich and deepD
Whispers in its sleepD
-
'Mid the crumpled beds of marigold and phloxB
Where the boxB
Borders with its glossy green the ancient walksB
There's a voice that talksB
Of the human hopes that bloomed and withered hereE
Year by yearF
Dreams of joy that brightened all the labouring hoursB
Fading as the flowersB
-
Yet the whispered story does not deepen griefG
But reliefG
For the loneliness of sorrow seems to flowH
From the Long AgoH
When I think of other lives that learned like mineI
To resignI
And remember that the sadness of the fallJ
Comes alike to allJ
-
What regrets what longings for the lost were theirsB
And what prayersB
For the silent strength that nerves us to endureK
Things we cannot cureK
Pacing up and down the garden where they pacedL
I have tracedL
All their well worn paths of patience till I findM
Comfort in my mindM
-
Faint and far away their ancient griefs appearF
Yet how nearF
Is the tender voice the careworn kindly faceB
Of the human raceB
Let us walk together in the garden dearest heartN
Not apartN
They who know the sorrows other lives have knownO
Never walk aloneO
