A Parable Of Immortality Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEFGH I J KLMC G NH OP OI am standing upon the seashore | A |
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze | B |
and starts for the blue ocean | C |
- | |
She is an object of beauty and strength | D |
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs | E |
like a speck of white cloud | F |
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other | G |
Then someone at my side says | H |
' There she goes ' | - |
- | |
Gone where | I |
- | |
Gone from my sight that is all | J |
- | |
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar | K |
as she was when she left my side | L |
and just as able to bear her load of living freight | M |
to the place of destination | C |
- | |
Her diminished size is in me not in her | G |
- | |
And just at the moment | N |
when someone at my side says | H |
' There she goes ' | - |
there are other eyes watching her coming | O |
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout | P |
- | |
' Here she comes ' | - |
And that is dying | O |
