The Old Ones Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFG HIJK LMNM

The old ones knew that black was hateA
White garment purity and red one sinB
They spoke the language of the treesC
And opened veins to let love inB
-
These old ones feeling life was briefD
And brittle as the fire baked shardE
Could find no seat for sentimentF
So mended weakness with a swordG
-
In them the heart was made of goldH
But mind was forged of steel so sharpI
That hand which plucked the harp could shapeJ
From father's skull a drinking cupK
-
The old ones' fashion we have lostL
Whose red is passion white deceitM
In casting devil from the fleshN
Who perish with the bread we eatM
