Waggon Hill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCAC ADADDCAC AEAEEFAC

Drake in the North Sea grimly prowlingA
Treading his dear Revenge's deckB
Watched with the sea dogs round him growlingA
Galleons drifting wreck by wreckB
Fetter and Faith for England's neckB
Faggot and Father Saint and chainC
Yonder the Devil and all go howlingA
Devon O Devon in wind and rainC
-
Drake at the last off Nombre lyingA
Knowing the night that toward him creptD
Gave to the sea dogs round him cryingA
This for a sign before he sleptD
Pride of the West What Devon hath keptD
Devon shall keep on tide or mainC
Call to the storm and drive them flyingA
Devon O Devon in wind and rainC
-
Valour of England gaunt and whiteningA
Far in a South land brought to bayE
Locked in a death grip all day tighteningA
Waited the end in twilight grayE
Battle and storm and the sea dog's wayE
Drake from his long rest turned againF
Victory lit thy steel with lightningA
Devon o Devon in wind and rainC
