The Invasion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEC AFGHIJ KLMNLM AOPAQP RSTAUT

Spring they say with his greeneryA
Northward marches at lastB
Mustering thorn and elmC
Breezes rumour him conqueringD
Tell how Victory sitsE
High on his glancing helmC
-
Smit with sting of his archeryA
Hardest ashes and oaksF
Burn at the root belowG
Primrose violet daffodilH
Start like blood where the shaftsI
Light from his golden bowJ
-
Here where winter oppresses usK
Still we listen and doubtL
Dreading a hope betrayedM
Sore we long to be greeting himN
Still we linger and doubtL
What if his march be stayedM
-
Folk in thrall to the enemyA
Vanquished tilling a soilO
Hateful and hostile grownP
Always wearily warilyA
Feeding deep in the heartQ
Passion they dare not ownP
-
So we wait the delivererR
Surely soon shall he comeS
Soon shall his hour be dueT
Spring shall come with his greeneryA
Life be lovely againU
Earth be the home we knewT
