Clifton Chapel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIHI JKJKALAL MNMNOPOM

This is the Chapel here my sonA
Your father thought the thoughts of youthB
And heard the words that one by oneA
The touch of Life has turned to truthB
Here in a day that is not farC
You too may speak with noble ghostsD
Of manhood and the vows of warE
You made before the Lord of HostsD
-
To set the cause above renownF
To love the game beyond the prizeG
To honour while you strike him downF
The foe that comes with fearless eyesG
To count the life of battle goodH
And dear the land that gave you birthI
And dearer yet the brotherhoodH
That binds the brave of all the earthI
-
My son the oath is yours the endJ
Is His Who built the world of strifeK
Who gave His children Pain for friendJ
And Death for surest hope of lifeK
To day and here the fight's begunA
Of the great fellowship you're freeL
Henceforth the School and you are oneA
And what You are the race shall beL
-
God send you fortune yet be sureM
Among the lights that gleam and passN
You'll live to follow none more pureM
Than that which glows on yonder brassN
Qui procul hinc the legend's writO
The frontier grave is far awayP
Qui ante diem periitO
Sed miles sed pro patriaM
